Activities
Moose-hunting
Whether you’re an experieced moose-hunter or a novice, you’re very welcome! As a guest hunter you will be a member of a hunting team, taking part in the hunt and in the social side of things.
In order to take part you must have passed the hunting test, have a valid paid-up hunting licence, and have shot 50 practice rounds at a shooting range. The price includes board and lodging at the farm and the use of a walkie-talkie. If you are lucky enough to shoot a large bull moose, the antlers are yours to take home with you as a hunting trophy!
We hunt in two periods, from 25th September and from 10th October. We prefer you to be in the team for the full period of 6 days. If you should wish to take part without actually carrying a gun, that’s fine. During the course of your stay you will be served a gourmet meal of fresh moose meat.
Moose-tracking
Accompanied by a guide with an elkhound, you can go tracking moose - an exclusive offer for anyone who wants to learn more about how hunters and dogs manage to track down a moose. The guests are taken one by one on a 3-4 hour walk through the forest while the guide points out the tell-tale signs and explains how the dog is working on the scent. Back at the farm, you can sit beside the fireplace and chat about what you’ve experienced.
Small game hunting
We have at our disposal an an area of some 27000 hectares (about 11000 acres) for small game hunting. The local forest owners and hunting associations sell hunting licences at very reasonable prices. You can stay on the farm or rent a logger’s cabin (see below). The area is known for its abundance of game birds.
Fishing
The area is rich in trout streams and forest tarns with perch and pike. There is good fishing in the gentle Julussa River, and the waterway is being upgraded to make it more accessible for anglers and canoeists.
At Lake Gransjoen we have a rowing boat at your disposal free of charge. Remember to put it back after you’ve used it!
From the farm it’s just 20km to the Rena river and the mighty Glomma, Norway’s longest river. The local authorities have created many good fishing places along the river, and can provide you with local guides and experts should you so wish.
Try flyfishing here or take your flyrod to Gjerfloen Flyfishing in Trysil.
Guided forest walks
You may want to go for a walk through the forest, but not on your own. We can arrange for guided walks. One of our walks goes to the top of Gransjoeberget, 700 metres above sea level. From here, above the tree limit, you can look out over a vast panorama of the area.
It’s not all walking! We stop for breaks and enjoy lunch packs or a barbecue round the fire.
Bike rides
The forest roads are ideal for cycling, and since most of them are closed for motor vehicles, you’ll have the roads for yourself.
Riding
We co-operate with a local farm which has Icelandic ponies. The hosts, Ingeborg and Tryggvi, are themselves from Iceland and can give coaching for those who’ve never ridden before. The trip goes from their place and up to our forest farm. The ponies are well suited to the terrain, and it’s a memorable experience to enjoy the gentle ride off the beaten track. At the end of the ride you may wish to have a meal or to stay the night here at the farm. How about taking a friend on a pony ride as a surprise birthday present?
Brewing talk
Rena is the home of ”The Little Brewery”. The brewer himself, Per Walmsnaess, would be happy to come up to the farm and talk to you about beer. He brings along different types of beer for beer-tasting courses, or he can give you a talk on the art of brewing beer. His humorous and optimistic style, as well as the taste of good beer, will make it an evening you won’t forget!
We can also supply transport down to the brewery for a guided tour. Max 12 people.
Talk on Aqua vitae.
You may have heard of Loeiten Distillery, famed for its production of aqua vitae (akevitt).
The actor Gotmar Rustad, an expert on the history and culture surrounding the production of this potent drink, will bring his ”show” up to the farm and entertain you with stories about the distillation of spirits, as well as giving you the opportunity to taste a few drops of the hard stuff!
Max 12 people.
Flights and parachutejumping.
The area is home to the National Centre for Gliding and Parachuting. If you dare....we’ll fix the rest!
