Moose hunting

Happy moose hunterWhether you’re an experienced moose hunter or a novice, you’re always very much welcome! As a guest hunter you will be a member of a hunting  team, taking part in the hunting and social events. In order to take part you must have passed the hunting test in your homeland, and have a valid Norvegian state licence and documentation of 50 shots on a shooting range.

The price includes board and lodging at the summerfarm and the use of a walkie-talkie. If you are lucky enough to shoot a large bull, the antlers are yours free of charge.

The hunting season is divided in two periods, from 25th September and from 10th October. We prefer that you join the team for the full period of 6 days. If you want to take part without actually carrying a gun, that’s OK. During the course of your stay you will be served a gourmet meal of fresh moose meat.

Moose tracking

Norvegian ElkhoundAccompanied by a guide with an elkhound, you can go tracking moose -  an exclusive offer for anyone who wants to learn more about how hunters and dogs manage to track down a moose. The guests are taken one by one on a 3-4 hours walk through the  forest while the guide points out the tell tale signs and explains how the dog is working on the scent.  Back at the farm, you can sit beside the fireplace and chat about your experiences.

Small game hunting

Hunting capercaillieWe have at our disposal an area of some 27000 hectares (about 11000 acres) for small game hunting. The local forest owners and hunting associations sell hunting licenses at very reasonable prices. You can stay on the summerfarm or rent a logger’s cabin (see below). The area is known for its abundance of game birds.

Fishing

The area has numerous trout streams and forest tarns with good stocks of perch and pike. The fishing in the gentle Julussa River is charming, and the waterway is being upgraded to make it more accessible for anglers and canoeists.

Flyfishing pikeAt Lake Gransjøen we have a rowing boat at your disposal  free of charge.

From the farm it’s just 20kms to the Rena river and the mighty Glomma, Norway’s longest river. The local authorities have created many good fishing places along the river, and can provide you with local guides and experts if needed.

Guided forest walks

Lunch meal in the forestWe provide guides for those who want guided trips in the forest. One of our trips goes to the top of Gransjøberget, 700 metres  above sea level. From here, above the tree limit, you can look out over a vast panorama of the area.

During the trip we have breaks and enjoy lunch packs or a barbecue around the fire.

Bike rides

Enjoy cykling on forest roadsThe forest roads are ideal for cycling, and since most of them are closed for motor vehicles, you’ll have the roads for yourself.

Brewing talk

The beer brewerRena is the home of ”The Little Brewery”. The brewer himself,  Per Walmsnæss, would be happy to come up to the summerfarm and talk to you about beer.  He brings along different types of beer for beer tasting courses, or he can give you a lecture on the art of brewing beer. His humorous and optimistic style, as well as the taste of good beer, will give you a memory you won’t forget!

We can also provide transport down to the brewery for a guided tour. Max 12 people.

Talk on Aquavit.

A taste of AquavitThe actor Gotmar Rustad, is an authority on the history og Aquavit and culture concerning the production of this potent drink. He can bring his ”show” up to the summerfarm and entertain you with stories about the distillation of spirits, as well as giving you the opportunity to taste a few drops of the hard stuff!
