Gransjøberget Sæter
Soendre Gransjoeberget is a summer farm deep in the forests of eastern Norway, ideally suited to hosting meetings, seminars and parties.
Marianne Wimmer is a third generation forest owner who took over the property in 1999 and commenced restoring the neglected buildings and the overgrown pastures around the farmstead. After a great deal of work the place is now a veritable forest idyll! The farm was back in use by the autumn of 2003 and was officially ”re-opened” by the mayor of the municipality in June 2004.
The ambience of the place is so incredibly quiet and peaceful because the old, restored buildings have a soul of their own.
There is no electicity here in the forest, but gas, wood, paraffin and candles create an atmosphere which everyone will appreciate. The comfortable beds will guarantee you a good night’s sleep, whilst the long pine table in front of the open fire is an invitation to enjoyable mealtimes.
There are four buildings: the original farmhouse, a small annexe (ideal for heavy snorers!), a guesthouse, and a new outhouse with two outdoor toilets.
The farm is used during the summer and autumn seasons for all types of gatherings.. The season starts in the middle of May when the forest roads have dried out, and ends with the Christmas party season in November/December.
The main farmhouse
This house is the original log boilerhouse. It has two bedrooms with bunk beds (so-called ”family beds”), a fully equipped kitchen with gas cooker and refrigerator, and a simple bathroom with a handbasin. In the living room there are sofas, a long dining table and an open fireplace, and in the hallway guests can hang up clothes to dry.
The guesthouse
The guesthouse, a fine old pine-log building from a valley further north, was moved here, log by log, and lovingly re-erected on the farm. It contains four bedrooms with family bunk beds. In addition there is a day room with a kitchen unit and clothes-drying facilities, and a simple bathroom with a handbasin. The heating is by gas and wood-fired stove.
The hosts
Your hosts will make sure that everything is in top shape for you. They will serve food if desired, and take you out on various activities if you should wish. They are prepared to answer any questions you might have, and do everything they can to make your stay here thoroughly enjoyable. As guests, you will have the whole farmstead to yourselves – only one group at a time. Alcohol can be served at private parties.
A winter’s night out here in the forest, under the huge night sky, is something you will never forget.
